ApplyMate Chrome extension privacy policy

Last updated: 22 July 2026

This policy covers the ApplyMate browser extension only. Data handling for your ApplyMate account is covered by the main privacy policy.

What the extension reads

When you click the ApplyMate icon on a job posting, the extension reads that page to find the job title, the hiring company and the job description. It reads only the tab you are looking at, only at the moment you click, and only text that is already visible on the page. It does not run in the background, does not read other tabs, and does not track your browsing history.

Where that text is stored

The captured job posting is stored on your own device, in the browser's extension storage. It stays there until it is used to fill the ApplyMate form, at which point it is deleted. If you never click through to ApplyMate, it is simply replaced the next time you capture a job, and removing the extension deletes it.

What gets sent to ApplyMate

The job description is sent to ApplyMate only when you click "Tailor my resume with ApplyMate". At that point it is placed into the resume form at apply-mate.com, exactly as if you had pasted it yourself. Nothing is transmitted if you close the popup.

Separately, the extension sends a small number of usage events to ApplyMate so we know the extension is working: that it was installed, that a capture succeeded or failed, and that the button was clicked. Those events contain the event name, which method found the job description, the website's domain name, and a random identifier created for your installation. They never contain the job description, your resume, your name, your email address, or the page address.

Debug mode

The extension has an optional debug mode, switched off unless you turn it on yourself. While it is on, the extension keeps a list of the last 25 pages it inspected, including their addresses and any job text it captured, so a wrong capture can be examined afterwards. That list is stored on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time from the debug page or by switching debug mode back off.

What we never do

  • We do not sell or rent your data, to anyone, ever.
  • We do not share extension data with third parties for advertising.
  • We do not collect passwords, payment details, or form contents from the pages you visit.
  • We do not use the extension's permissions for anything beyond capturing a job posting you asked us to capture.

Permissions, and why each one is needed

  • activeTab: lets the extension read the job posting in the current tab, and only after you click the icon.
  • scripting: lets it run the small script that finds the job description on that page.
  • storage: holds the captured job posting on your device until the form is filled.
  • Access to apply-mate.com: lets it fill the form on our own site and send the usage events described above.

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your device. To delete data associated with an ApplyMate account, or to ask what we hold, write to support@apply-mate.com.
