What you get
A Europass CV is not a design - it is a fixed set of sections, in a fixed order, with the same headings across 31 languages, so a recruiter in one EU country can read a CV written in another. We fill in the sections your CV actually has and leave out the ones it does not.
Plus Projects, Publications, Honours and Awards and Volunteering when your CV lists them.
Should you use a Europass CV at all?
Often not. Europass is the right document when something specifically asks for one - EU institution applications, EURES, and many public-sector, academic and mobility programmes across Europe. For an ordinary private-sector job in most countries, a standard CV is the better choice and usually the expected one.
If you are not sure which you need, the longer explanation is in our guide to the Europass CV format, including a filled-in example and what goes in each section.
Questions
Is this the official Europass CV builder?
No. This is an independent tool from ApplyMate and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the European Union. The official Europass builder is free at europass.europa.eu and asks you to type your CV in from scratch. This one converts a CV you already have.
What is the Europass CV format?
Europass is the European Union's standard CV format. It uses a fixed set of sections in a fixed order - Personal Information, Work experience, Education & Training, Language Skills, Skills - with the same headings in 31 languages, so an employer in one EU country can read a CV written in another. It was relaunched in 2020; the older version with the EU flag and the blue skill bars is retired.
Is a Europass CV ATS friendly?
The layout is: it is a single column of clearly labelled sections, which is what applicant tracking software parses most reliably. The format is not the hard part. What decides whether you get through a screen is whether the content matches the words in the job ad, and that is true of any CV format.
Which languages can I generate it in?
English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish. The section headings come from Europass's own published translations, so they match the official document exactly rather than being translated by us.
Do I need a Europass CV?
Usually only when something asks for one: EU institution applications, EURES and many public-sector or academic postings across Europe, and some university and mobility programmes. For an ordinary private-sector job in most countries a normal CV is the better choice, and often the expected one.
Does it add anything I did not write?
No. It reformats what your CV already says. It will not invent employers, dates, grades or language levels - if your CV says your English is "fluent", it stays "fluent" rather than being converted into a CEFR letter you never claimed.
