Taleo is one of the oldest applicant tracking systems still in wide use, and its age shows in the parser. It is the least forgiving of the major systems about layout, which is why a resume that reads perfectly elsewhere can come out garbled here.

What Taleo does differently
Heavily used in large corporates, healthcare systems, government and retail — anywhere a long-running HR stack was never replaced.
- Tables and multi-column layouts are the single biggest failure mode. Taleo reads them left-to-right across columns, interleaving unrelated lines.
- It expects conventional headings. "Career Highlights" or "My Journey" may not be recognised as the experience section at all; "Work Experience" and "Education" are.
- Older Taleo instances handle DOCX more reliably than PDF. When an employer's portal offers both, DOCX is the safer choice here specifically.
- Special characters and decorative bullet glyphs can come through as noise. Plain round bullets are safest.
- Recruiters search Taleo with keyword queries, so exact-phrase matching with the posting's own wording matters more than in newer systems.
